All of Open-IX board members are comprised of volunteer representatives from the Internet community in the United States, who are coming together to create a better, safer, stronger, fairer Internet.
William Charnock, Chairman
Will is the CEO of PacketFabric. Prior to this he was the Vice President of Network Architecture and Engineering at Limelight Networks, where he was responsible for the architecture and interconnections strategy of Limelight's global CDN network. Prior to that he spent 11 years at SoftLayer as the Vice President of Network Engineering and Operations where he oversaw all network functions for SoftLayer's global network as they grew from a small regional hosting provider to one of the largest cloud computing providers in the world, with datacenters in North America, Europe, and Asia. Will has spent the better part of the last 20 years working in Internet infrastructure businesses and is an active member of the Internet community.
Christian Koch, Vice Chairman and Liaison, Membership Committee
Christian is currently the Director of Global Interconnection at Megaport, a leader in next generation interconnection products and solutions. Previously, he was a Strategist at Microsoft, where he contributed to overall interconnection strategy, with a strong focus on internet exchange points, and held several roles in engineering prior to that at companies such as Twitter, Meebo, and QTS Data Centers. His interests primarily include interconnection, traffic management, photography, and coffee.
Greg Hankins, Treasurer
Greg Hankins is Senior Product Line Manager at Nokia, where he works with service providers and Internet exchanges around the world to deliver innovative internetworking solutions. Greg has been an active member of the network operator and peering community for nearly 20 years, and frequently speaks at network operator conferences on network technology and operational topics.
His combined operator, customer, and vendor background give him a unique global view on current interconnection issues, topics and trends in the network operator community. Greg is a former member of the Open-IX IXP Standards Committee, a former member of the NANOG Program Committee, and a current member of the Euro-IX Forum Programme Committee.
Prior to joining Nokia, Greg held technical marketing and systems engineering positions at Brocade Communications, Force10 Networks and Riverstone Networks, and network engineering positions at MindSpring Enterprises and Georgia Tech.
David Temkin, Co-Founder and Board Member
David Temkin is the Vice President of Network Strategy and Architecture at Netflix, where he is responsible for the network architecture and interconenction of the Netflix global content delivery network. He has also held the position of Director of IP Product Development and Engineering at Telx. He was responsible for all Layer 2 & 3 product architecture, design, and deployment across the Telx portfolio of data centers. Previously, he spent time at Yahoo! as the Layer 4-7 Network Architect, responsible for network load balancing. He also designed and built out the global network for Right Media, an online ad serving startup that was later acquired by Yahoo!. He also serves on the NANOG Board of Directors and is active in the NANOG and RIPE communities.
Vinay Nagpal, Board Member and Liaison, Marketing Committee
Vinay Nagpal is Data Center Services leader with over nineteen years of experience in wholesale, retail and enterprise data centers, developing and managing colocation and hosting services. Vinay is currently responsible for growing DuPont Fabros Technology’s carrier-neutral connectivity and peering options, supporting customers’ networking requirements and managing company’s telecommunications infrastructure nationwide. Vinay has been actively involved with Open-IX Association since its inception in building better and open standards for Peering and Interconnections, and he is on the LINX NoVA Customer Advisory Board in Northern Virginia.
Previously, Vinay has held several senior-level positions in Product Development and Product Management at Tata Communications, Verizon Business, MCI, Digex and UUNET managing data center services worldwide. Having lived and worked in four countries—US, Canada, Australia and India, Vinay holds an MBA in Information Systems from Australia, a B.S. in Computer Science from India and ITIL certification from US. Vinay has authored white papers and industry publications on Data Center Outsourcing and IT infrastructure and he has been a featured speaker on Data Centers, Interconnection, and Peering at industry events.
Chris Malayter, Board Member and Liaison, IXP Standards Committee
Chris Malayter is Senior Director of Network Engineering at CoreSite. His responsibilities include design, implementation, and operations of all electronic transmission infrastructure including the Any2 peering exchange. He has over 15 years of experience in the networking, datacenter, and Internet exchange fields. Chris has experience in network engineering, architecture, and operations. He has held positions at Equinix, Switch and Data, Broadwing, and TDS Telecom. Chris has previously served as the chair of the NANOG mailing list committee, volunteers for PeeringDB, and serves as a member of the Open-IX Datacenter Committee.
Josh Snowhorn, Board Member and Liaison, Data Center Standards Committee
Vice President and General Manager, Interconnection Josh's role is driving the expansion of CyrusOne's use of Internet exchanges at all of its locations to significantly increase the number of providers available to customers and enable Internet peering, and industry changing Seismic peering. He reports directly to Gary Wojtaszek, President & Chief Executive Officer of CyrusOne.
Josh spent the last 12 years as Vice President of Business Development at Terremark Worldwide. There, he developed new business in emerging markets and drove all business-related peering throughout the company's portfolio. In addition to his role at Terremark, Josh was affiliated with industry-leading organizations such as the North American Network Operators Group (NANOG), Réseaux IP Européens (RIPE), the European Internet Exchange Association (Euro-IX), and the Global Peering Forum (GPF), a joint venture that he co-founded with Equinix, AMS-IX, DE-CIX, and LINX.
