We are a nonprofit member-based organization, encouraging the proliferation of interconnection through education and the development, implementation and certification of transparent technical and operating standards, in order to create more resilient and efficient global internet infrastructure.
Leading the Way
OIX has developed industry-leading, ANSI accredited engineering and operating standards, and best practices for internet exchange providers, data center providers, and edge data center providers. Our standards and certifications are available to all organizations around the world that wish to adopt these best practices.
For Internet Exchange Providers
OIX certification encourages them to penetrate new markets or geographies and expand partnerships amongst multiple data centers.
For Data Center Providers
OIX certification allows traditional and edge data centers to attract a new ecosystem centered around interconnection, offering access to interconnection on a fair and reasonable basis.
For Carriers
OIX certification empowers them to provide interconnectivity between IXP locations to the IXP, data center, and end customer.
For Cloud Service Providers
OIX certified entities can benefit them by offering a platform for easy distribution of services and a more direct connection for customers.
In addition to maintaining these standards, OIX provides actionable information and intelligence about the interconnection landscape. For example, the Interconnection Navigator, which allows users to research and visualize interconnection and IXP data from PeeringDB. OIX offers these services free of charge.
OIX is a self-regulated Internet community effort that aims to improve the landscape of internet peering and interconnection globally, promoting uniform, cost-efficient standards of performance for interconnections backed by the internet community.

Internet Exchange Point Standards (IXP) Committee
Develops and maintains the OIX-1 technical and operational standards for IXPs.
Data Center & Edge Standards (DC-Edge) Committee
Develops and maintains the OIX-2 technical and operational standards for Data Centers and maintains the OIX-3 technical and operational standards for Edge Data Centers.
Best Current Operational Practices (BCOP) Committee
Develops and maintains community-regulated BCOP documents.
Product Committee
Tasked with the creation and maintience of our OIX "tools" such as the Interconnection Navigator.
